Arizona Metal Recycling Law

On August 31, 2007, laws went into effect regarding metal recycling:

• No stripped copper wire from the general public will be accepted, only from licensed contractors/businesses.
• We cannot accept aluminum wire thicker than 3/8" from the general public, only from licensed contractors/businesses.
• Anything over $300 is required to be paid by check, and the check must be mailed to the individual's physical address. NOTE: Physical address on ID will be used to mail checks over $300, NOT a P.O. Box.
• You must have either a state issued driver's license, state issued ID, Tribal ID or Military ID to recycle metal. (Must be valid, not suspended or expired!)
• Anything over $25 will require signing a police report including a fingerprint.
• If the individual dropping off material is in a company vehicle, the check will be issued to the company or the owner, not the person dropping the material off. The check can be issued at time of service.
• You must be at least 16 years of age to recycle any material.
• Only one transaction allowed per day (except aluminum cans and ferrous metals).
• Aluminum cans and steel are excluded from these changes.
